Because it's the only one that had an IDS program and also a UofT label. International Development Studies is a fairly new program and is only offered at UTSC and York. And I was not going to go to York.
Course Curriculum
It's pretty hands-on and that's exactly how one should study IDS. It's elaborate, however, not wholesome. It does lack a few important topics that need to be taught. But it's a fairly new program and I'm sure it will grow.
Fees
A lot. I'm making a hole in my dads pocket. 45,000$ all together. But at least I'll have a UofT degree.
Examination Structure
In my program, it's just one midterm and final, but as you get to upper years it's fewer exams and more assignments. A lot more research-based papers carry a lot of weight. This is a pretty good structure.
Faculty
Love it. I have heard from my friends from other universities that their faculty couldn't care less about them. I have never had any such encounter. All the profs are really sweet, qualified, and do justice to UofT's top rank.
