I chose this university because of the amazing city of Ottawa. I have always been a fan of small towns but didn't want to lose the downtown hectic feel of Toronto, and Ottawa has a mixture of both! It has a crazy amount of multiculturalism and people there are extremely nice and supportive of minorities.
Exams
I chose Computer Science as I have a strong passion for coding. Ever since middle school, I have been programming websites, apps, etc. However, I knew a college degree should be my next step to excel in this career. Nowadays, you can't secure a job, even entry-level, without a college degree. Sometimes even a bachelor isn't enough, so this was definitely a well thought out step for me.
Placement
There are a lot of placements in the coop program. The university states that 90% of students enrolled in the coop program are offered a placement which is an excellent rate. The placements offered to vary from term to term, however, it is not unlikely to see offers from the big 5.
Internship
My college offers a coop program, in which as a student you can apply to if you meet the criterion. This includes having a specific minimum GPA as described by your faculty. Once you are enrolled in the coop, you have access to a job board in which companies hire students based on both merit and experience. You also gain access to workshops that help increase the chances of getting a placement.
Fees
The tuition of my program is $10k per year, this is based on the domestic tuition. The international tuition can range from $20000 to $35000 per year. I received the entrance scholarship of $1000 based on my high school grades used to apply to the university. I also received a loan from OSAP offered by the government of Ontario of $5000.
Hostel
I lived on campus with a meal plan. A problem I faced was the quality of the food. The meal plan cost $5000 for the year and the food was sub-par. Often food was bland, dry, and they often ran out of bread, bagels, etc. making breakfast difficult. I ended up spending a lot of money eating outside due to this. Other than this, the meal hall was open 24/7 which is very unique and great for studying.
