Abhisek Chowdhury Review at Douglas College, New Westminster | Collegedunia

Post Baccalaureate education at Douglas College

I liked the program, because of the variety of courses which were being offered. My intension was to build on my Tech Stack, along with my portfolio as a Software Developer. Additionally, it was quite affordable.

Course Curriculum :

I was definitely able to build my Tech Stack, and portfolio in order to land a job after finishing my course. The courses covered important technologies which are used in the industry today. I also had the chance to do a Co-op for about 8 months.

Exams :

My scores: IELTS 8. I took the GRE as well, however I did not need it to apply to schools in Canada.

Placement :

All my colleagues are placed and working in reputed companies in their fields at the moment. I got a job 2 months into finishing my classes and exams. It really depends on how well you are able to network, work on your portfolio, and able to work with different tools and technologies.

Internship :

I did do a Co-op in 2021, I do not wish to mention the name of the company, however I was getting $19/hr without any benefits.

Fees :

CAD 20,000 - 25,000 excluding expenses

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio, I would say is 1:25. The professors under whom I had courses, were extremely supportive. I was able to see them outside of class for advice and mentorship.

Campus Life :

Very decent, I was doing my courses online for half of the program because of Covid.

Hostel :

I lived in three places throughout my education. The first was a two month accommodation in a 2BHK, in Burnaby, with a roommate, where I paid $825 for the room. The second was also a room (smaller) in a house, in Surrey, where I paid $550, and currently I live in a room (large room with a porch) in a house in Vancovuer, where I pay $750.
