Course Description

Masters of General Surgery (M.S. General Surgery) is a postgraduate course in a mix of different surgical disciplines like Head, Neck, Vascular, Abdomen, Surgical methods etc. A candidate has to be a MBBS degree holder recognized by Medical Council of India in order to be eligible for this course

Masters of General Surgery is a three year program. The course follows an annual system over semester system. The mode of admission is solely through Entrance Examination which is either conducted by a state, university, national level.

Since there is a large quantity of colleges both private and government the average tuition fee tends to vary a lot. However, at an average, the fees for the entire course would range from 10 Lakhs INR to 45 Lakhs INR.

Masters of General Surgery or General Surgery is a branch in the medical sciences which deals with abdominal contents including oesophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland.

 This is a ‘speciality’ among other like fields of medicine like Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Cardio etc. Someone who is a big ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fan would instantly recognise this field as this is a speciality opted by Dr. Meredith Grey in this Hollywood series.

Duration

This course follows the annual mode of examination and is completed over the duration of three years. The duration of MS courses is 2 years for those with a 2 years recognised diploma in the same speciality.

Academic Requirement

For General Category (GC) Candidate:

  1. The candidate should hold MBBS degree from recognized Medical College and should have obtained full registration from Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils after completing the compulsory rotating internship.
  2. The candidate should secure not less than 50% marks in last 4 & ½ years.

For Scheduled Cast (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Other Backward Community (OBC) Candidate:

  1. The candidate should hold MBBS degree from recognized Medical College and should have obtained full registration from Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils after completing the compulsory rotating internship.
  2. The candidate should secure not less than 40% marks in last 4 & ½ Years.

Candidates from outside Karnataka State:

  1. Candidates from outside Karnataka State must get Migration certificate from respective State & Eligibility certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  2. Candidates of minority status should have a certificate from appropriate authorities.
