It is a good choice for those who want to undertake further research without the lengthy time commitment that a PhD represents.
The 120-point MCom or MA can be undertaken as a one-year full-time Master's by thesis programme, and should be completed within a maximum of 12 months. Part-time students can take the programme over two years.
The thesis requires the completion of a research study (including a literature review, data collection/analysis, findings) presented as a thesis of up to 40,000 words. It provides the opportunity to explore and make a meaningful contribution to a body of knowledge within a chosen area of inquiry. It is an effective way to demonstrate depth of knowledge in a topic for career positioning or advancement.
