New Delhi: With the adoption of the CUCET by major universities, the aspirants now wait for clarity on seats and counselling for the upcoming academic session 2022-23.
Recently, some of the Central universities implemented CUCET as a single entrance exam for admissions to the courses. With aspirants waiting for clarity, the officials at universities have notified that the modalities pertaining to seat allotment and counselling sessions are unclear.
Earlier, DU Confirmed Admission via CUCET for the academic session 2022-23, and last week, this JNU alo passed a proposal to use the exam for admission.
According to a JNU official, it's the university's decision to take the call whether they want to adopt CUCET admissions or not. The academic council doesn't have any clarity on how the seats will be allocated.
Either the council can conduct internal counseling sessions like the IITs or the candidates can approach the universities after receiving their ranks. However, the UGC's decision is yet to be made, the official said.
Yogesh Singh, DU Vice-chancellor, said that it is expected that students will get admission based on their ranks. Because in the IITs, there are a limited number of courses, but taking into account the vast nature of CUCET, centralized counseling sessions will be impossible.
Therefore, when the students receive their rank cards, they can immediately apply for various universities and colleges. Also, the university will have its own portal where the students will be asked about their course and college preferences, Singh said.
In all probability, the CUCET will have a common section and a second section will be discipline-specific. The entrance exam will only be centralized, after which the universities can follow their own schedule and academic calendars, Singh said.
Meanwhile, the senior officials of Ambedkar University revealed that the varsity is yet to take decision on adopting CUCET.
Anu Singh Lather, Ambedkar University, Vice-chancellor, said that the varsity will take up the proposal of implementing CUCET in its upcoming academic council meeting. Therefore, the candidates can sit for a single test for specific discipline,
Najma Akhtar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Vice-chancellor said that CUCET will not entirely be a new concept for the university.
Since JMI is already a part of common entrance exams, i.e, engineering students enroll forJMI admissions via JEE, while the dental aspirants are placed through the NEET, the new entrance exam will not be a new thing for the varsity, she said.
Further, the proposal shall be discussed collectively and the statutory body of JMI will take a call soon, Akhtar added.
