New Delhi: Delhi University is all set to have an odd-even formula for open book exam and offline examination 2022, scheduled to be held between March and May 2022. The varsity has planned to conduct examinations in online Open Book and physical mode.
While the March/April examinations of DU will be conducted as an online Open Book Exam (OBE), the May examinations will be conducted via the offline mode (physically).
According to the official DU notification, the semester I, III, and V or odd semester exams will be held in OBE mode, whereas the semester II, IV, and VI or even semester examinations will be conducted in physical mode.
Speaking about the DU exams 2022, RS Rawat, dean, Examinations, said the decision was taken on the basis of the recommendations of the working group for examinations.
First semester exams will be in the third week of March in online OBE mode once physical classes conclude on March 10. Following government instructions and reopening of the campus for physical classes, the first-year students will be expected to attend only 17-18 days of offline classes.
Hence, physical exams for this group of students would have required days of proper planning, involving paper printing, answer script preparation etc. Online OBE seemed like the best option for such students, Rawat said.

He said that the physical exams have been scheduled to start from May 2022 onwards and the final & second year students who are already attending offline classes will be attuned to the idea of physical exams. However, few students had filed a plea for online exams in May that had been summarily dismissed.
The varsity is all set to conduct the open book exams for the seventh time via the online mode as the first OBE began in August 2020, followed by a series of exams in 2020 and 2021, some of which provided a second chance to the DU students.
Speaking about the recent exam patterns, Yogesh Singh, vice-chancellor, DU, said that first year students are being given all the flexibility they require with an option to attend online/offline classes prior to their online OBE.
However, second year and third year students are required to mandatorily attend offline classes as that will assist them to get used to the physical mode in May 2022. A proper time frame is being given to all the students to prepare for the different exam formats, he said.

Manoj Sinha, principal, Aryabhatta College, said that the reopening of the campus and the online OBE has become a serious problem for the students.
Principals have been directed to exercise discretion to make sure that students do not feel bothered as the current developments might not be liked by every student. As a result, the college has decided to make attendance optional, Sinha said.
Further, he said that the varsity is making arrangements to facilitate the needs of some students located abroad and in other states in the country. The varsity is not forcing the students to compulsorily attend physical classes but making alternate arrangements for classes in hybrid mode.
The tech-savvy faculties are being provided with exclusive high-speed internet in the classroom to broadcast their lectures and students also have a chance to watch video/audio recordings of certain lectures according to their convenience. The only peculiar thing in the exam plan is the online OBE for which preparations are already in progress, Sinha said.
Manoj Sinha concluded by saying that the varsity would like to go back to its original physical mode of examinations, as its teaching-learning process is in sync with the physical system of evaluation and that the recent directives are moving in that direction.
Meanwhile, DU is all set to conduct its 98th convocation at the Multipurpose Hall of the university’s Sports Stadium Complex on February 26, 2022, where the university will facilitate digital degrees to nearly 1.73 lakh students.
