IIT Madras to Offer Online BSc Data Science Course to School Students: Read Here

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is planning to offer an online BSc program for data science students of government and aided schools. The program will be offered to for four year duration without any entrance examination. 

As per IIT Madras, a team of Director V Kamakoti, Coordinator of NPTEL, Vignesh Muthuvijayan, Registrar Jane Prasad, and Dean of Administration Koshy Varghese visited Chief Minister MK Stalin to discuss ways to offer Data Science programs to school students. 

IIT Madras B.Sc Program 2022 was launched last year for all interested and eligible candidates. The four years-long program is offered to students through online means only. Interested candidates can check the admission process of the same at the institute's website. 

B.Sc Program in Data Science is one of the online programs of the institute which offers students an IT degree without appearing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) route. 

Candidates who are interested in the online program can apply for the same under IIT Madras Admission 2022 by submitting their study materials and appearing for the qualifier exam. 

As of now, IIT madras has enrolled over 10,000 students in its B.Sc Program, while another 5,000 students have registered to appear for the qualifier exam shortly. Government and aided school students have enrolled from Tamil Nadu as well as from various other states. 

While talking about the number of students registered for the IIT Madras Program 2022, Vignesh Muthuvijayan said, “We are aiming to increase this number significantly to around 1,000 students from government schools".

“Since it is an online program, students can pursue this while doing another degree or in-between jobs. The training has a lot of project components and hands-on training. It is a proper degree approved by IIT Madras,” he added.

Adding to the statement, Director V Kamakoti, Coordinator of NPTEL said the program aims to tell students and teachers that IIT is within their reach. The program will be open to all students so that they can receive top education facilities and teaching from IITM Faculty Members

Unlike JEE which is a selection exam, BSc Data Science is a qualifying exam and IIT Madras will offer it with the help of the state government. Data science is a growing field and we believe students will receive long-term benefits from this program, he added.
