IIT-Bombay to Conduct Online Orientation for Parents of Newly Joined Students; Know Details Here


Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has planned to conduct an online orientation programme for the parents of the newly joined students. 

IIT-B has already decided to conduct the entire first semester through the online mode. And now even the orientation programme will be held via the online mode, due to the impact of the pandemic COVID-19 situation. 

The online orientation programme is held for the students who have taken up admissions in various UG courses offered by the institute. 

The first semester is likely to commence from November 16, 2020, and the admitted students will have to attend the online orientation programme from November 11, 2020. 

In the view of the online semester, IIT-B has planned to hold the orientation for the parents as well.

Subhasis Chaudhuri, the director of, IIT-B said that this is the very first time the institute will conduct the orientation for the parents. 

Although, some of the departments have earlier allowed the parents to appear for the orientation programme. This time, the orientation is explicitly held for the parents since the students will study at home during the online semester.Parents and students need to co-operate at these times, she said. 

It is reported that nearly 1,300 students have been shortlisted for admission to the 25 disciplines of IIT-B via the JEE examination.

Further, she said that the student mentors will guide the shortlisted students to prepare them for the transition before the commencement of the orientation. 

While the orientation for the parents will be on educating them to help their children during the online semester. 

In the first week, the students will be guided on how to attend the online lectures and appear for the online tests. This week will be considered as a zero week.

IIT-B has planned the semesters in such a way that the entire academic year can be concluded at the end of June. 

Every year, IIT-B starts the semester in July and ends it in November with a short winter break and the even semester resumes in December and Concludes in May for a summer break. 

However, this year, the pandemic COVID-19 has played a spoilsport role causing changes in the academic calendar, she concluded.
