IIT-Delhi To Establishes Sponsored Research Parks for Research Worth INR 700 cr; Check details


Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Delhi has decided to establish sponsored research parks for research work, worth INR 700 crores. 

The sponsored research parks will be set up at IIT Delhi for research of various private companies in order to facilitate collaborative research and development of advanced technology.

As of now, IIT Delhi has received proposals of INR 700 crore from various private firms for industry partnership. Even the government institutions have invested crores for starting collaborative research on a large scale with the IIT-D. 

In order to design and develop the defence equipment in collaboration, thr Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has planned to invest around INR 500 crores.

IIT Delhi Admission 

Several big NGOs are expected to participate to promote industry collaboration at the special research parks that are being established within the college campus. 

These research parks will be well-equipped with modern laboratories and supporting infrastructure that will help in facilitating the research work of more than 100 companies.

Ramgopal Rao, IIT-D Director, said that many industries have shown interest to conduct sponsored research at the special parks that are being established in association with the DRDO, which have also invested in it. In order to conduct research, even the Tata group has invested over INR 50 crores.

Out of the total INR 500 crore, the DRDO has so far invested INR 264 crore, which has also earlier imported defence machinery. Now, they'll be able to develop state-of-the-art technologies indigenously, he added. 

An MoU has been signed between many institutions like the Indian Navy, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIITD), Ashoka University, National Law University Delhi (NLUD), Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, Visakhapatnam (IIPE) and the Bharat Heavy Electricals with IIT-Delhi to establish the avenues of engagement with industry, transfer knowledge and create value.

An IIT-Delhi alumnus, Anant Yardi, has contributed $10 million to IIT-Delhi, in order to support its state-of-the-art laboratories and its newly-established 'School of Artificial Intelligence'. Yardi is currently based in the US, who was a student of IIT-D in the early 60s. 

According to the IIT-D director Rao, this type of contribution will guide the institute to foster development of new research each day.
