New Delhi: The Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has announced that the Karnataka government will accommodate around 700 Ukraine-returned medical students in 60 medical colleges across the state.

The health minister revealed that arrangements would be made in the Karnataka medical colleges to facilitate the continuation of studies of Ukraine returned students. A high level committee has been constituted to look into this matter.

The high-level committee consists of the principal secretary of the Medical Education Department; director of medical education; the RGUHS Vice-Chancellor, registrar, and directors and deans of some medical colleges.

Recently, the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared that the state government has been considering measures to reduce the fees for the medical courses in the state.

Post his meeting with a delegation of students who returned from Ukraine, K Sudhakar said in a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, that the top priority of the government is to provide proper services for the Ukraine-return students to continue their studies.

According to the reports, a discussion on academic matters concerning those students were discussed. The meeting was conveyed as per the directions led by the state CM.

The higher education of the Ukraine-returned students should not be curtailed, as a result, the students who returned from the war-torn country would be accommodated in the Karnataka medical colleges, the minister said.

Colleges for Ukraine-returned Students to be Selected by the Govt

The minister said that currently, there are a total of 60 medical colleges in Karnataka and that the state government will ensure that the clinical training is continued for such students.

Once the students are permitted to continue their education, the government will select the colleges for the Ukraine-returned students.

The state government has planned to constitute a five-member committee in coordination with the Central government, wherein the committee will provide inputs about what should be the government’s demands with the Central government and the National Medical Council (NMC).

Further, the 5-member committee would also give a report on the students who have come back to the country after the Covid outbreak in other countries.
