If IIM KI is 8/10 (ABC being 10/10) where does IIM Shillong and IIM Trichy stand?
Here are my ratings for the IIMs
- IIM Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta: 10
- IIM Lucknow: 9
- IIM Kozhikode and Indore: 7.9
- Other second-generation IIMs: 7.6
- New third generation IIMs: 6.8
The above rankings have been done on the basis of age, placements, and research. I don’t think these factors are enough to rank IIMs.
Another major parameter of comparison is the duration of the establishment.
- First generation: (est before 1984) Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta Lucknow
- Second generation: (est. before 2000) Indore and Kozhikode
- Third generation: (est. around 2009) - Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur, Kashipur, Shillong
- Fourth Generation: New IIMs (after 2014) - 7 IIMs
Most of the FT rankings and online rankings are based on this parameter. In reality, every IIM has top-notch faculty, infrastructure and placements m. Yet the new IIMs will take some time to reach the top.
Is it hard to survive IPM IIM Indore for someone who’s not good in maths?
To get into IIM Indore for the IPM course, one has to clear IPMAT, and assuming you cleared it. If you cleared the IPMAT test and got into IIM Indore, you won’t have any trouble surviving on campus because they filter out and take only the deserving ones, so, don’t feel low, and be confident about your abilities. Although, Maths is important in the IPM curriculum, as it has a wide-ranging correlation to some of the other subjects such as Economics and Statistics, so, you just need to be good in arithmetic and maths which is in the R S Agrawal.
What is the best part of the IIM Indore IPM?
There are many perks of doing an IPM program from IIM Indore. Here are a few of them.
- If you are a student of an IIM, not only will you get the tag of IIM but also get the IIM experience over five years. You will get acquainted with subjects that you will have to study in your MBA course. You will have a strong base in management subjects like humanities, economics, and maths which will help you a lot in MBA.
- Students who are pursuing IPM are already aware that they will have to go for MBA after completion of the former program and so they frame their resume accordingly. They can take online courses during their undergraduate years. However, if someone pursues an MBA after completing their engineering then they will not think about doing such courses in general.
- Even though the size of the batch is small, it offers more exposure and opportunities which helps in growth. The small size of the batch gives the students access to additional study material. Your peers will help you in times of need.
With IPM you don’t have to worry about competitive examinations for MBA which is definitely an advantage.
Is there any provision for lateral admission in IIM Indore IPM?
No, there is no provision for lateral admission in IIM Indore IPM. The institute you are currently studying in, the course that you are pursuing, and your scores, even if they are high; does not make any difference.
This is because IIM A, B, C, L, and I, all have their own methodology of teaching. All the other remaining IIMs are also on their way to become unique in their approach.
Apart from the Ph.D. program, the transfer of students is not encouraged. They do not want to put their teaching methodology and students’ career at risk.
However, if you want to get into the program, you can retake the entrance examination. You might then get a call for further rounds of GD and PI if you clear the pre-requisite requirements for age.
Is going for an IIM Indore 5-year plan a good idea?
Having known some friends who graduated from IIM Indore, I would literally like to suggest you go for this program even if it sounds intense.
- It not only gives you deep exposure but also, you get a lot to learn being on the same campus for the subsequent 5 years.
- This is definitely one of the best choices to make. Even if you belong to the science stream.
- Almost 80 percent of the students of the first batch of IPM belonged to the science stream.
- It gives a complete holistic development and serves as a great platform to begin a professional career.
- The placements of the batch have been really good too.
- The program was split into 3 years and 2 years with fees of 3 LPA for the first three years and 13 Lacs for the next two years.
- Most of the faculties are visiting which makes it more apt to join.
- Overall the course curriculum and facilities are very good. Recently, a huge rise in the number of applicants was also witnessed.

Is there a form to be filled out before the IIM Indore IPM interview?
I have a few friends from IIM Indore and they received a form to be filled out before the IIM Indore IPM interview. It had some basic questions such as "Why do you want to join IPM?". The questions are very general and it is just there to gauge the opinions and interest of the candidate.
The interviewers usually read the answers and primarily ask the questions based on the answer written by the candidate on the form, thus it is important to fill it carefully. The interviewers just want to know your thoughts and writing skills in general.
What is the written composition in the process of getting selected in IPM IIM Indore?
The IPM (Integrated Programme in Management) selection process for IIM Indore includes a new component called the Written Aptitude Test (WAT). This component carries a weightage of 15% in the overall selection process.
The WAT tests candidates' English language skills and their ability to communicate. Language proficiency is vital, but it won't decide WAT's success.
It is important to ensure that whatever is written is grammatically correct as basic grammatical errors can harm the overall score. However, the focus should not be on using difficult or fancy English words. Instead, it is better to express oneself in the simplest way possible.
Candidates should avoid beating around the bush if they run out of ideas as this would result in negative points. It is recommended to pause and relate to the topic as this would help to develop better ideas to support the point of view.
Lastly, it is important to stick to the word limit provided for the WAT. The candidate should ensure that they do not exceed the word limit as this could lead to negative marking.
WAT component of the IPM selection process is designed to evaluate the candidate's ability to communicate effectively and not just their proficiency in the English language. Candidates should focus on expressing themselves in a clear and concise manner, avoiding basic grammatical errors, and sticking to the word limit provided.
Which particular book should I buy to practice only maths for IIM Indore IPM?
Maths is comparatively tougher than the other two in the IPM aptitude test. So it is important that you prepare for it very thoroughly. The following are some books that are recommended.
Arun Sharma for CAT is an excellent book for practicing math skills. Just remember to quit when it becomes too much, otherwise, you'll end up squandering your time on just one subject.
Do not attempt any of the higher-level questions in it. But remember this book does not serve as a bible or anything and you’ll have to work very hard to crack this particular exam.
Besides, there is another book named “Word Power Made Easy” which is an excellent English textbook that is also enjoyable to read.
How is the IPM program of IIM Indore? Should I take admission in IPM?
IPM program is a really good option for students after school. If you convert it, you should then definitely join IIM Indore. The IPM program's goodness is explained in the following points.
- IPM has a diverse and vast curriculum. You'll get to learn things that will not only help you in school but also make you a better person. Maths, statistics, and economics are the most important topics, and they are taught in depth every term. Aside from that, it offers classes in everything from computer languages to performing arts and foreign languages as electives.
- It lets you study at an IIM right after you finish 12th grade. No matter how much people say that your talent and passion are more important than the college you went to, an IIM tag is still.
- Even though the course is hard academically, there are a lot of extracurricular and co-curricular things to try. The only undergrad party that any IIM puts on is run by IPM students"Atharv". The IPM group also puts on a sports festival once a year. Aside from that, we have regular debates, quizzes, writing competitions, and fun events that make sure we don't miss out on the best parts of college life.
- When it comes to sports, IPMers have been very busy. There are a lot of events for both boys and girls that happen often. The school has great sports facilities, such as a swimming pool the size of an Olympic pool, well-kept tennis, badminton, basketball, and cricket stadiums, to name a few.
- After the first three years, the IPM Batch and the new PGP Batch are put together. After that, all of the classes and placements are taken care of by a group. So, you get to go into the business and compete with people who went to IITs and NITs.
I got selected for admission in the IPM programme by the IIM Indore. How is the programme beneficial for us, as compared to the CAT students?
In the last two years of IPM students get the same opportunity as compared to the CAT students.
IPM encompasses a range of subjects spanning the disciplines of Science, Humanities, and Commerce. It's a hand-picked mix of some of the most useful subjects in these disciplines which will ultimately shape you into being a good manager.
The course also includes subjects on physical training and mental agility. It is a well-rounded course with a lot of depth vis-a-vis a routine MBA.
As far as the placements are concerned, many top-notch companies don’t allow IPM students to apply. Most of the IPM students join start-ups.
In the coming years, companies will be more inclusive during placements. This can be validated by comparing the placement of IPM students in successive years.
