You should concentrate on building a well-rounded profile while preparing for FMS, MDI Gurgaon, and XLRI. All management institutes including these give preference to students with exceptional profiles. Concentrate on extra-curricular and co-curricular that will help make your resume stand out.

For FMS try to score above 99+ percentile and concentrate on the PI preparation. The GD-PI round is crucial for XLRI's final selection. Students with excellent XAT scores can get rejected because of their poor performance in the personal interview round. MDI focuses more on the overall profile of the students.

FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, and XLRI are among the only few top colleges and B-schools in the country which give more emphasis on the entrance tests rather than the GD/PI process mostly followed by most other B-schools. It should be noted here that FMS Delhi and MDI Gurgaon accept CAT scores while XLRI accepts XAT scores only.

FMS Delhi

  • This institute gives a whopping 70% weightage to CAT score in their final selection criteria.
  • If a general category student can score more than 99.85 percentile then if the GD/PI goes bad, you will sail through quite easily.
  • If your score is somewhere close to 99.65, then you need a good PI to convert. Below that, it becomes extremely difficult.

MDI Gurgaon

  • If you have more than 99 percentile with 10th, 12th, and graduation more than 90%, 90%, and 80% respectively, then it should be easy for you to convert. These marks have a weightage of 70% in the final selection unless you screw up your GD/PI pretty badly.
  • However, this college has also started looking for better profiles from this year onwards as this helps in better and easy placements.

XLRI

  • The median score of the batch remains close to 99.1 percentile in XAT. However, it gives lots of power to the interviewers.
  • It is not uncommon to find students scoring more than 99.9 percentile and still getting rejected by XLRI.

So, score as high as possible in CAT/XAT and give decent to good interviews, and get selected for these top institutes.
