How is CS at IIT Mandi?

At the present time, CSE branch at IIT Mandi is highly coveted because of the major rise in average package over the years from 14 LPA in 2017 to 17 LPA in 2018. It has been ranked 12 for IITs by India Today 2020 college rankings.

Here are some more details about CS at IIT Mandi: 

1. Academics- CS faculty is very good and even the Director himself is from a CS background. The academic curriculum at IIT Mandi is unique as compared to other IITs in being very interdisciplinary in approach.
2. Rankings- IIT Mandi has been given NIRF Engineering College Ranking 31 in the years 2020 and 2019 as well, and an NIRF Overall Ranking of 67 in the year 2020.
3. Internships- Students from CS branch got selected for internships in various Multinational Companies such as:

• Goldman Sachs: From 3rd year, four students got an opportunity for internship with Goldman Sachs for the year 2018-2019.
• Microsoft: In the same year, 11 students grabbed internships at Microsoft.
• Webstaff: 4 students were selected for internship in Japan during the previous two years.
• Others: Many more companies like Amazon provided internships to many CS students from the campus. 

      4. GSOC Selection: The Google Summer of Codes has selected at least 2 to 11 students during the past 3 years. 

5. Placements: In the year 2020, IIT Mandi recorded the highest number of offers, that is, 142 which were offered to 101 students as 85% of the students registered for the placement drive. The CS branch grabbed the highest number of placements followed by Electrical Engineering. The major companies visiting the campus for placement include CodeNation, Microsoft, Amazon, HPCL, Goldman Sachs, IBM India and many more. 

Overall, CS branch at IIT Mandi is the best that is available in that institution. The only shortcoming I can see is that the campus is not as developed as other IITs. However, the natural beauty surrounding the campus is serine and makes the overall experience peaceful.
