Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Since you are an Agricultural Engineering student, doing PGP-FABM from IIM Ahmedabad will be a better option if you want a career in Agriculture. FABM students get recruited in Agri Inputs and Services, Agri Commodity Trading, Food, & Agri Consulting, and Agritech. Also, some recruiting companies offer common job profiles to PGP and FABM students.

If you aren’t specifically interested in Agriculture, and want to pursue a career in HR, XLRI HRM is an excellent option. It is the best Human Resources program in the Asia-Pac region. The placement opportunities are great.

Before choosing any of these options, check the career outcome of both the courses and see which interests you more.

If one has completed graduation in agricultural engineering then it makes more sense to pursue agricultural business management. FABM and HRM both are broadly different and specialized fields of management, IIM-A, and XLRI is top-ranked for these mentioned courses respectively.

The table mentioned below gives a brief comparison of both institutions:

The course curriculum in the first year is common with other the PGP courses instilling basics of management, enabling students to not only be restricted to sector-specific opportunities. Salient features of the previous placement season are:

  • 50+ offers rolled out by 20+ recruiters in this sector
  • Hindustan Unilever, AB InBev, P&G, ITC, GSK, Heinz were the top recruiters
  • Highest CTC on offer was 27 LPA
  • Average placement rate over 70%
  • International tie-ups with European Business School, University of Cologne, ESSEC Business School, France

The PGDM-HRM at XLRI is considered to be one of the top 3 courses to be pursued in the country by Outlook. Even if one has a background in agricultural engineering, he can opt to choose this course as it provides immense opportunities, and in the recent past, statistics denote that engineering students occupy the maximum percentage of overall students placed. Key highlights of the placement session are:

  • 100+ recruiters took part in the hiring process offering 300+ roles
  • Airtel, American Express, E&Y, BPCL, Bloomberg were amongst the major recruiters
