CAT 2016: 96.05

Everyone looks at IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta through CAT and XLRI through XAT. The IIMs have mastered the art of marketing through alumni networks, events, and branding. As a result, they are able to attract the best faculty, students, and recruiters. The respectable cycle will be broken if they fail in one aspect.

FMS is under the supervision of DU. It has a set budget, a limited number of seats, and consistent recruiters. The cycle is well established; there is no need to change the current situation.

IIMs and XLRI are the only institutions that hold separate exams and require entrance exams. Many advertisements for these entrances can be found in newspapers, blogs, and magazines. FMS, on the other hand, avoids such activities. FMS offers similar opportunities in terms of exposure, placements, knowledge, a strong alumni base, and so on.

Having friends studying in these institutes. My friends and I can assure you that IIMs and XLRI are popular when compared to FMS Delhi. The reasons may vary from person to person. But there are 2 major reasons that everybody agrees with.

Media presence and publicity:

  • If we speak about IIMs, it is well known to almost every person. Credits to older IIMs and the achievements of their alumni.
  • There is a general public perception that your life will be sorted if you enter an IIM.
  • The popularity of IIM as a brand is rightly deserved but it's highly difficult for other B-Schools with the same curriculum, placements, and alumni network to get such recognition.
  • Advertisements through media or even through word of mouth help a lot. But FMS rarely advertises which might be one of the reasons it is not that popular.

Frame of reference:

  • If you are clearly focused on pursuing an MBA, you will be well informed and will definitely know about FMS.
  • But if you are asking someone who hasn't tried any MBA entrance test and is not a B-School graduate, or doesn't even have friends at a B-School, there are high chances that they might not know about FMS.

FMS is one of the best B-Schools in India which you can attend. Lack of public recognition doesn't create a big difference in its path to reach the summit. You can easily choose to study at FMS, which will promise a good enough career.
