The KTH India Scholarship is awarded by the KTH India Foundation annually under the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. First introduced in 2012, the KTH India Scholarship is sponsored by the generous donations from an anonymous donor. The award covers the tuition fee up to 2 years of study along with a living allowance for 10 months.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective students who wish to apply for the KTH India Scholarship need to meet the eligibility criteria to be able to apply. Being a merit-based scholarship the eligibility criteria are basic requirements that have been listed below:

  • Must be a citizen of India
  • Must be a fee-paying student
  • Applied for admissions to KTH Royal Institute of Technology in a master’s program
  • Applicant’s first priority for admission to a master’s program must be KTH.
  • Must hold an undergraduate degree from India.

Applicants with conditional eligibility can also apply for the scholarship. Applicant’s willing to apply for a joint master’s program are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.


Application Process

There is no separate application process for availing the scholarship. The admission application of candidates to whom admission is offered by KTH is assessed for granting the scholarship.

The KTH India Scholarship Foundation specifically states that the applications from Mumbai Metropolitan Area and Pune will be given priority over those from other regions. The applications for studying one of the Master’s programs need to be submitted within the dates specified by KTH. The table below represents these details.

Selection Process

The basis for selection decisions for the scholarship is done by considering the academic excellence of the candidate. Applicants should primarily fulfill admission criteria for being considered for the scholarship. Various factors that influence the selection decision are as follows:

  • The GPA or equivalent grades of the applicants
  • The ranking of the university from where the applicant has been awarded the bachelor’s degree
  • The director of the master program at KTH Royal Institute of Technology
  • The applicants’ performance in extra-curricular activities
  • Applicant's motivation to join KTH and pursue a master’s program
  • Work experience in a related field of study

According to the foundation's statutes, applicants from Mumbai Metropolitan Area and Pune are prioritized for the KTH India Scholarship.


Grant Details

The KTH India Scholarship is offered to graduate students who have the status of a fee-paying student at KTH. The scholarship award covers the tuition fee for the first year. The scholarship is renewable for the second year provided the students continue to maintain satisfactory progress in their first year of study.

In addition to this, recipients are eligible to receive a monthly living allowance for up to 10 months during their academic tenure.
