Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship

Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship is offered to international students who wish to study in the UK and pursue a research degree at the University of Edinburg. It is offered to international students commencing Ph.D.degrees at the University of Edinburg.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective applicants must secure admission at the University of Edinburg to be eligible for the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship.

Along with that, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Must be a full-time Ph.D. student pursuing research work on any course of their choice from the university.
  • Must be an international student liable to pay the tuition fee.
  • Must be of outstanding academic merit.
  • students who receive upper second class in Bachelor's and Master's degrees are also considered for this scholarship, due to competition the chance of receiving the scholarship is broadened if they have better academic results.
  • Must provide proof of nationality, residence, the proposed field of study, and personal information.
  • Must not hold any other scholarship at the time of applying for this scholarship.

Application Process

Applications for the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship must be submitted online through a portal MyEd on the official website of the university.

  • Applicants for PhD Economics with integrated study for 4 years will be unable to apply for this scholarship via MyEd.
    • They are required to email EconPGR.enguiries@ed.ac.uk to receive a paper application that is then to be submitted by the same deadline.

The complete applications must be submitted before the application deadline i.e. February 17.


Selection Process

Once the application is received by the university, next comes the selection process.

A special selection committee is appointed by the university board to judge students on the given criteria.

Recipients will be notified by the end of April about the scholarship. The scholarship is renewable up to three years of research at University of Edinburg.

Terms and Conditions Regarding the scholarship:

  • Not applicable to students who already have a Ph.D. degree or an equivalent of direct research training.
  • If a student has applied to start his Master's in the first year, and the Ph.D. in the second year as in the case of Post Doctoral, the scholarship will not be applicable in the first year of their study.
  • Students cannot hold the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship with other scholarships like Commonwealth Scholarship or a Marshall Scholarship.

Grant Details

The Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship is provided by the University of Edinburgh for all those full-time Ph.D. students who wish to conduct research

  • The scholarship is only eligible for international students.
  • A total of 30 awards are granted annually.
  • The grant is renewable and is provided for three years for every semester.

The scholarship ensures the difference between the tuition fees of international students and domestic students.

Note: In case of applying and securing another scholarship in spite of holding this scholarship, the scholarship becomes non-renewable immediately.
