Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship

The University of Waterloo awards its undergraduate first-year admitted students with an entrance scholarship- Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to international students who want to study in Canada.

  • Up to 20 Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarships, each worth 10,000 CAD (5,73,563 INR), are awarded annually.
  • The scholarship is open for all international students applying for entry to any UWaterloo UG program.
  • International students with a minimum of 90% are considered for this award.
  • Academic excellence is the core parameter for awarding the International Student Entrance Scholarship
  • The scholarship is awarded only for the first year of the degree
  • No separate application is required for the Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarships.

The International Student Entrance Scholarships are awarded by the University of Waterloo on merit-basis. Hence the student needs to showcase academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the International Student Entrance Scholarships, an applicant must fulfill the criteria set by the University of Waterloo. Applicant should:

  • be an international student with a study permit to Canada
  • be applying to a full-time undergraduate degree program at the University of Waterloo
  • showcase academic excellence with an average of 90% or above.

In addition to these, applicants must meet the admission requirements of the university:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including all required courses.
  • If the applicant’s first language is not English, they may need to meet the university’s English language requirements:

NOTE- Applicants applying for mathematics should have Euclid Math Contest results. 


Application Process

There is no different application needed for the Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship consideration. Applicants who successfully apply for admissions to the University of Waterloo and also meet the eligibility for scholarships are eligible.

Applicants would need to submit:

  • Admission Information Form (AIF). The form will ask for short essays
  • Euclid Math Contest Results (for mathematics students)

Since only 20 awards are available, applicants must complete their admission applications on time to be eligible.

Selection Process

Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship, hence the admission committee’s main criteria to select an applicant is academic excellence.

  • Students with an average of 90% or above will be considered for the scholarship
  • The AIF might also be considered while awarding the scholarship
  • Euclid Math Contest Results

The awards will be declared in May after the university has received the final mark sheets from the previous institution. Applicants starting their post-secondary studies for the first time, who can fulfill the eligibility criteria might be considered for the Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship. Once the applicant has applied for admissions to the university, they will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
