HASS Scholarship for Excellence - India

The HASS Scholarship for Excellence offers a partial-grant to exceptionally intelligent undergraduates seeking admission in the Faculty of Humanities and Social science at the University of Queensland. Scholarship Grant up to 10,000 AUD (5,58,374 INR) p.a. is awarded to each selected candidate

  • Applicants should be residing in one of the following countries:
    • India
    • Indonesia
    • Latin America
    • Malaysia
    • Vietnam
  • Selections are primarily based on academic performance, personal essays, and other achievements.
  • Applications for the year 2021 are closed for HASS Scholarship for Excellence. The application deadline for 2022 is yet to be announced.

The scholarship can be extended over two years under very special circumstances by writing to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the HASS- Excellence Scholarships, applicants have to opt for a full-time graduate program at the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In addition to this, an applicant must:

  • be an Indian citizen who is residing in India at the time of the application.
  • have completed an undergraduate degree from an Indian institution.
  • have received an unconditional admission offer for a postgraduate program at UQ.
    • The academic session must be beginning in September 2020.
  • not hold any other scholarships simultaneously
    • Those who have already received financial aid must highlight it in their scholarship application.

All scholarship applicants are required to submit necessary documents to back up their claims, in order to be eligible for the scholarship.

Application Process

Applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria for the UQ HASS Scholarship for Excellence can apply for the scholarship.

The University of Queensland has a separate online application process for the scholarship. However, before applying for the scholarship, applicants must receive their admission letter from the university.

Admission Checklist for Postgraduate Program at UQ

  • English language proficiency
    • TOEFL-iBT: 87
    • TOEFL-PBT: 570
    • IELTS: 6.7
    • Pearson Academic: 64
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 4.50 on a 7.0 scale.
  • Standardized test like GMAT, GRE (if applicable)
  • An updated CV

Selection Process

All the applications are reviewed by the selection panel and since this is a merit-based scholarship, the selection process for the HASS scholarship is based on the following factors:

The selection is done solely on the basis of applications. The selection committee takes the final decision and informs the awardees via email.

Terms and Conditions

  • Students have to fulfill all requirements associated with their student visas
    • Overseas Student Health Cover is a compulsory requirement of your student visa.
  • Students are expected to perform well and achieve good results academically.
  • Students have to participate in a photoshoot and Testimonial for the Faculty, which is published on the website and used for other promotional purposes.
  • In the case of deferring, transfer, or withdrawal from the program, students have to inform the Executive dean in writing.
  • The scholarship is terminated if the student does not complete the academic year at UQ or fails to maintain full-time study

Grant Details

The HASS scholarship for Excellence covers a grant of up to 10,000 AUD per year for tuition fees. The scholars can make a request for the extension of scholarship to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences only under the following circumstances:

  • If, due to sickness or significant personal conditions, a student need to delay the start of studies for a limited duration of one year

If the scholarship recipient fails to continue studying for a maximum duration of 1 year, the scholarship will be revoked.
