Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Monash International Merit Scholarship, the applicant must make sure to fulfill the eligibility requirements. Applicant must:

  • be an international applicant
  • intending to enroll in a full-time UG or PG program at Monash University, Australia
  • have received an admission offer from Monash is enrolling in the first year
  • If the applicant is a current student at the university, he/she must have completed two semesters of the course.

Current students of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) course or the Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) must have completed three semesters of their courses to be eligible to apply for the scholarship. Also commencing students for these programs are not eligible for the scholarship. They are required to apply as a current student.

  • Note: You are not eligible to apply for this scholarship if you
    • Are studying Australian Year 12. You may be eligible for the Sir John Monash Scholarship for Excellence.
    • Are commencing in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) course or the Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD). You will need to complete four semesters and apply as a current student.

Application Process

To seek consideration for the Monash International Merit Scholarship, the interested applicants have to submit a separate completed scholarship application. The applications must be submitted as per the specified deadline.

Upon successfully completing the admission process at Monash University, applicants can complete the-

  • scholarship application
  • statement in about 500 words giving details about reasons for choosing the course and how the scholarship can make a difference to the applicant’s career and country
  • Preference will be given to commencing students.

The application form does not require any additional documents to be sent. Before applying for the scholarship, the applicant must make sure that they have received an admission offer from Monash.


Selection Process

The selection criteria for the Monash International Merit Scholarship are the-

  • academic qualifications
  • minimum average mark of 85 or more
  • scholarship application statement (500 words)
  • potential to be a Monash University ambassador

The Selection Committee prefers students who are commencing their courses at the university for the current academic year.

To retain the scholarship, the applicant must-

  • maintain an average of 70% or above in each semester
  • participate in the least three marketing and scholarships promotional activities

The promotional activities for the renewability of the scholarship include official scholarship function, participating in marketing and networking events, etc.


Grant Details

The Monash University campus in Australia offers the Monash International Merit Scholarship to international students from all countries taking up admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate program.

A scholarship award of AUD 10,000 per year is awarded for the entire course duration. The total scholarship value of up to AUD 50,000 is awarded to meritorious students looking to study in Australia. To renew the award the winners have to maintain an average of 70% in every completed semester.

The applications for the Monash International Merit Scholarship are available in various rounds. The various application closing dates have been mentioned below:

Terms and Conditions

  • The scholarship is awarded on a renewable basis to all international students (maximum 31) who fulfill all the eligibility and are selected to receive the same.
  • These applicants need to be full-time students at Monash University (undergraduate or postgraduate courses)
  • The fresh MBBS and MD students are not eligible for the award but after completing three semesters they can apply under the current student category.
  • The scholarship is renewed only if the winner will score 70% or above in each completed semester.
  • The scholarship can be availed with a deferment in the same academic year but cannot be carried to the following year.
  • The winners have to participate in the promotional activities and programs of the university.
