Wesleyan University Freeman Asian Scholarship

The Freeman Asian Scholarship is aimed at offering academically gifted Asian students to pursue UG programs at Wesleyan University. The scholarship can be undertaken while studying at Wesleyan University.

  • Students belonging to one of the following countries are eligible:
    • China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
  • The major selection criteria to qualify for the award include academic achievement, intellectual prowess, involvement in social service activities, financial need, etc.
  • The scholarship provides full-tuition scholarship, covering the cost of tuition and student fees.
    • The maximum amount of scholarship is 56,704 USD.
  • Applicants may apply for the scholarship along with a common application form and attach the Freeman Scholarship Addendum Form.

Students are required to appear for an interview as part of the selection process. The Foundation aims to award 11 scholarships (one from each eligible nation) each year.

Eligibility Criteria

To secure the Freeman Asian Scholarship, applicants must meet eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Must be a citizen or a permanent resident of any one of these 11 countries: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must meet all the general admission criteria and the English Proficiency test requirements specified by the university.

Application Process

To secure Wesleyan University Freeman Asian Scholarship, applicants must apply through common application form at Wesleyan University.

Students must complete the along with the following documents listed below:

  • Background information,
  • College essays,
  • Letters of Recommendation,
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Language Proficiency test scores.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship are required to complete the Freeman Addendum. It includes the Freeman Essay and additional academic and personal information.

  • Students are also required to submit a financial statement stating whether they will be able to attend the university without any financial aid/ with financial aid for tuition fees/ with financial aid for the entire cost to attend.
  • All the students who apply should submit necessary documents to prove that they have academic competence to receive this award.

Selection Process

Freeman Asian Scholarship award is competitive as only 11 scholarships are available. Selection for the same depends upon the factors listed below:

The finalists of the scholarship will be interviewed by Wesleyan alumni in February or March. Also, admission interviews will be taken into consideration during the selection process.

Terms and Conditions Regarding Freeman Asian Scholarship:

  • Applicants who have US citizenship or are permanent residents of the USA are not eligible for the award.
  • Provide all necessary documents as proof of academic and financial status failing which the application is liable to be rejected.
  • Applicants are required to submit a financial statement to demonstrate their financial position.

Apart from the 11 Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarships, the University offers financial assistance to approximately 30 international students out of a pool of 1000 international students.

The aid is offered on the basis of the merit and financial need of the student. Students can also apply for loans, part-time employment or grants in order to meet their financial needs.
