UBC Outstanding International Student Award

Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award is a one-time, merit-based entry scholarship at University of British Columbia given to qualifying candidates upon acceptance to UBC. Students that are chosen for this award have strong academic performance as well as extracurricular engagement.

No separate application is required, candidates will be evaluated on the admission application.
Students commencing studies at the Undergraduate program at UBC are eligible for the OIS.
Candidates must hold a Canadian student visa to be eligible.
No external application is required, students will be evaluated on admission application only.

Students selected for UBC Outstanding International Student Award are expected to show strength academically and display involvement outside of the classroom.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be an international student holding a Canadian Student Visa to study at the university. To be eligible for the Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award, you must meet the following requirements:

Be a new student at UBC, having entered directly from secondary school or post-secondary institution (university or college).
Be an international student studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). Please note that changes to your citizenship status may impact your scholarship eligibility.
Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, as well as a strong record of extracurricular involvement and community service.
Not have been nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

Application Process

No separate application is required to be considered for the UBC Outstanding International Student Award. Candidates are judged based on their admission application to UBC.

So, candidates are advised to submit the admission application by January 15, 2023, to be considered for the scholarship.

Note: Late application submission will not be entertained by the university.

Selection Process

Candidates will be considered for OIS Award after they receive an offer of admission to the University of British Columbia.

The selection committee will review academic scores, ELP scores, and personal statement submitted with admission application.

Decisions regarding recipients of the award are taken between mid-March to the end of April each year.

Other academic expenses deemed necessary by the recipient
