University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship

The University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship scheme is designed for international students starting undergraduate studies at the university. For every academic year, the University of Alberta selected two recipients for the scholarship

  • Recipients are awarded 20,000 CAD, payable over 4 years.
  • The India Centenary Scholarship is applicable to all undergraduate programs at UAlberta.
  • The scholarship award value must be used for the payment of tuition fees.
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to continue their University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship

Apart from academics the university also takes into account an applicant’s extracurricular and community activities and any counselor or teacher recommendation submitted by the applicant.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for Indian Centenary Scholarship, the applicants have to opt for a full-time UG program at the University of Alberta. Also, scholarship applicants must have completed their high school from any recognized school in India.

In addition, to be eligible for the University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship, an applicant has to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be an Indian national
  • Must not be currently residing or studying outside India
  • Must have completed high school from a school in India
  • Must have outstanding academic records as well as extracurricular and community activities

Terms and Conditions

  • Transfer applicants are not eligible for the India Centenary Scholarships
  • Students should have less than 24 IB, AP or A-level credits before they start the UG program.

Application Process

Securing admission at the University of Alberta is the foremost step for any entrance scholarship at the university. Once you have received the confirmation of admission, applicants will have to complete a separate scholarship application.

After applying for the degree, students are given a CCID and a password using which they can access the scholarship application form. The University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship application is made available during the period of October to December. The exact dates vary every year and can be found on the university website.

The scholarship application consists of the following mandatory sections:

  • An activity summary (100 words approx)
  • five long questions
  • A couple of yes/no questions
  • Section for the Contact number of references

All the questions are aimed at finding out the interests and the previous experiences of the applicant and are a crucial factor in the final decision of the awarding of the scholarships.

All scholarship applicants are required to submit necessary documents such as high school transcripts and proof of English language proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE) in order to be eligible for the scholarship.


Selection Process

The university takes into account the overall performance of a candidate while selecting the recipients of University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship. For first time applicants, the deciding factors are as mentioned below:

  • Academic Performance
  • Extracurricular Achievements
  • Community Activities
  • Responses Given in the Scholarship Application
  • Reference from Teachers or Counsellors

In order to have their scholarship renewed students are required to maintain their GPA above 3.0 and reapply every academic year for four years.

Note: Applicants are not required to appear for any additional interviews during the selection process.

Apart from the University of Alberta- India Centenary Scholarship, the university also offers University of Alberta- India First Year Excellence Scholarship to incoming UG students from India.
