Cotton Family Women in Mathematics Graduate Scholarship

The Cotton Family Women in Mathematics Graduate Scholarship is awarded to outstanding women pursuing graduate studies in the field of mathematics. The scholarship is offered by the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.

  • Candidates are required to possess excellent academic records to be considered for the award.
  • It applies to masters and doctoral programs offered under the Faculty of Mathematics only.
  • The maximum amount awarded to the recipient scholarship is 3000 CAD.
  • A minimum of 1 scholarship is awarded every year.
  • Eligible candidates are automatically considered by the department at the University of Waterloo.

This scholarship amount will only cover a part of the tuition expenses of the student. The student would still be responsible to obtain the financial ability to pay for the remaining expenditures.

Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is aimed at helping talented women pursue advanced degrees in mathematics at the graduate level, at the University of Waterloo. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria to be eligible for the scholarship.

  • Applicants must be either domestic or international students.
  • Students applying to the following masters and doctoral courses at the University of Waterloo are eligible to apply:
  • The applicant should possess a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the university.
  • Must have excellent academic records.
  • Only female candidates are eligible.

Application Process

Students are not required to apply separately to be considered for the scholarship. Eligible candidates are considered on a case by case basis by the respective faculty department.

Selection Process

The scholarships are awarded based on the merit of the application submitted by the applicant.

  • Only female candidates with excellent academic records are considered eligible for the award.
  • The academic records, LOR,  standardized test scores are all taken into consideration during the selection process.

Grant Details

Cotton Family Women in Mathematics Graduate Scholarship is awarded to female students enrolled in Masters or Doctoral programs at the University of Waterloo.

They must be registered under the Faculty of Mathematics to be considered for the same.

  • The value of the award given in a year will be determined by the income generated by the Cotton Family Fund.
  • Efforts are made to award a maximum of 3000 CAD per academic year. 
  • The scholarship is given one time only and is not renewable.
