The Skoll Scholarship

The Skoll Scholarship is awarded to the students pursuing or getting admissions into the MBA program in the Said Business School, Oxford University. The scholarship applies only to students who are intended to become social entrepreneurs combating urgent environmental and social needs. Oxford University and its affiliated colleges can serve as best options if one is planning to study in the UK.

  • The Skoll Scholarship covers complete MBA program fees as well as the partial living expenses of the candidate.
    • The amount released as the partial cost of living for the student goes up to USD 19,480.50.
  • Up to 4 Skoll Scholarships are awarded every year funded by a generous grant from the Skoll Foundation.
  • Completion of Skoll Scholarship essay as a part of the MBA application is mandatory.
  • Applicants must take the GRE or GMAT tests to be eligible for applying and thereby receiving the scholarship.

The scholarship also provides access to the Skoll Scholar Community wherein social entrepreneurs, investors, world leaders thriving to positively create and innovate through systems change, interact and communicate with each other.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Skoll Scholarship, applicants must either be a social entrepreneur or be a part of an impact career. An impact career professional is someone who has used entrepreneurial approaches to address the same social or environmental issue. They can demonstrate they have a clear core thread that unites their work throughout their careers.

These professionals can demonstrate a commitment to social change in a particular area through this thread of work. To get the benefits of the Skoll Scholarship, the applicant must have spent at least 3 years in his or her social venture, meaning that the applicant has:

  • Started a social venture
  • Tackling a social or environmental issue
  • Created an impact initiative inside an organization

The applicant would also have to explain the need for a financial grant like the Skoll Scholarship as well as demonstrate why business education is fundamental in an entrepreneur’s case.


Application Process

  • To get the benefits of the Skoll Scholarship, Students are supposed to apply for MBA at Oxford University.
  • Applicants will be required to write a scholarship essay at the time of submitting their MBA application.
  • After being selected, the second part of the scholarship involves logistics and reference form including basic short questions like how the applicant got to know about the opportunity or the references.

A written application is followed by a virtual interview and further a personal interview for admissions at Oxford University. Also, there is no age restriction for applying to the Skoll Scholarship.


Selection Process

Candidates are shortlisted for the Skoll Scholarship based on a case by case reviews. The candidates are also required to take GRE or GMAT. Candidates have to take IELTS or TOEFL as the English Language proficiency tests.

  • Application deadline for MBA at Oxford (including submitting your Skoll Scholarship essays): 4 January 2023
  • Scholarship applications from Stage 1 reviewed (candidates updated): November 2022
  • Scholarship applications from Stage 2 reviewed (candidates updated): January 2023
  • Scholarship applications from Stage 3 and those shortlisted from Stage 1 and 2 reviewed: March and April 2023
  • Skoll Scholarship Logistics and Reference Form sent to candidates :14 March 2023
  • Skoll Scholarship Logistics and Reference Form submission deadline: 21 March 2023
  • Interview decisions made (all candidates updated): 6 April 2023
  • First stage interviews (online): 18 and 19 April 2023
  • Final stage interviews (online): 4th May 2023
  • Skoll Scholarship final decision: 10 May 2023 (at the latest) 

Applicants who are unsalaried or have an income which may exhaust if studying for Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in the UK or paying the admissions fee can apply for a fee waiver from the center. The applicants can send in their CV and cover letter at skollscholarship@sbs.ox.ac.uk. Applicants are required to apply for the fee waiver before submitting the MBA application.
