Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES)

Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES) recognizes academically outstanding students pursuing graduate studies at the University of Alberta(UAlberta). The scholarship applies to both masters and doctoral programs at UAlberta.

  • A sum of 12,000 CAD is given to the recipient as a one-time payment.
  • Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or more of the most recent 15 units of course weight.
  • Students must complete the AGES Student Declaration Form and submit it to their department.
  • Selection is done by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.

Academic transcripts, CV, Research proposal and departmental appraisal letter will be taken into consideration while making the final decision regarding Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES).

Eligibility Criteria

To secure the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES), students must meet the eligibility requirements mentioned below:

  • Must be domestic or an International student.
  • Must be living in Alberta.
  • Registered in years 1-4 of the master’s program or
  • Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher of the most recent 15 units of course weight.
  • Registered in a graduate certificate that can progress into a Master’s program also eligible.

Qualifying students, students on academic probation, or students registered in cost-recovery programs are ineligible.


Application Process

Students must complete the AGES Student Declaration form to their respective departments within the internal department deadline. Other required documents are listed below:

  • Recent Unofficial UofA transcript.
  • Research Proposal (maximum 1 page)
  • CV
  • Departmental letter of appraisal (maximum 1 page)

The department then nominates students to Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) by submitting through GSMS Awards Portal.


Selection Process

After nominations are received by FGSR at the University of Alberta, next comes the selection process for Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES).

FGSR will verify the nominee’s eligibility and evaluate their declaration form.

Selected students will then be notified directly by FGSR.


Grant Details

Students who wish to continue their studies in Canada at UAlberta with some financial help can apply for this scholarship. Students must be registered under a masters or doctoral program at UAlberta.
