QNX Graduate Scholarship

Applicable to the specific masters and doctoral programs of Waterloo, the QNX Graduate Scholarship program is an excellent financial aid for new students. The scholarship doesn’t have any restrictions in terms of citizenship or residency as it is applicable to all students beginning their studies at the University of Waterloo.

  • Applicants must be entering Waterloo’s department of Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Physics, or Computer Science.
  • QNX Graduate Scholarship is only available to students entering in the Fall term.
  • Selections will be made on the basis of an applicant’s admission application.
  • International recipients of the QNX Graduate Scholarship must have completed all paperwork to study in Canada.

The university intends to award the QNX Graduate Scholarship along with the OGS and QEII-GSST awards. So, the scholarship recipients who fulfill this requirement are awarded an amount of 15,000 CAD. However, in case of students where this is not feasible, awards are made at 5,000 CAD (paid over 3 academic terms).

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the QNX Graduate Scholarship program, applicants are required to fulfill the eligibility criteria given below:

  • Citizenship: Permanent residents/Canadian, International students on Canada student visa.
  • Enrolling for master’s or doctoral level programs in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics. Eligible programs:
  • Applicants must be applying for the Fall term of the University of Waterloo.

Apart from the requirements mentioned above, the university has set one more requirement. That is, the applicant must be a recipient of one of the following awards:

  1. Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST)
  2. Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)

Those who fulfill this requirement will be considered for the QNX Graduate Scholarship valued 15,000 CAD. However, if this is not possible, the scholarship will be valued, 5,000 CAD.


Application Process

The University of Waterloo doesn’t have any additional application process for the QNX Graduate Scholarship. Applicants who fulfill the scholarship eligibility criteria and have secured admission at the University of Waterloo will be automatically considered for the award.

Applicants must note this entire process will be administered by the Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, Department of Physics, and School of Computer Science.


Selection Process

As mentioned above, the evaluation and selection of the recipients will be managed by each participating faculty. Recipients of the QNX Graduate Scholarship will be selected based on the overall potential of their admission application.

Some of the factors which might play a significant role at the time of selections are:

  • Academic scores in the last degree achieved.
  • Exams to study in Canada such as TOEFL, GRE, GMAT
  • Research proposal (if applicable)
  • Recommendations
  • CV highlight any professional experience
  • Publications (if applicable)

Since recipients are shortlisted from different programs of the University of Waterloo, there is no specific number of awards that are distributed.


Grant Details

Waterloo’s QNX Graduate Scholarship program was created by Mr. Dan Dodge. He was the founder and establisher of QNX Software Systems. The scholarship program is designed to create opportunities for graduate students of the University of Waterloo, similar to those created for the undergraduate students of the university.
