St. Andrews International Undergraduate Scholarship

St. Andrews International Undergraduate Scholarship is a scholarship program proudly sponsored by the university itself. This program is an entrant scholarship open to international students who will be studying an undergraduate degree at St Andrews.

  • Eligible students must demonstrate financial needs, meaning their family gross annual household income is below the average household income for their country.
  • Recipients will be awarded a sum up to 10,000 GBP (9,99,568 INR) as contribution towards tuition fee.
  • Successful scholars will be expected to fulfill an ambassadorial role and represent the University at a number of events.

St. Andrews International Undergraduate Scholarship is renewable for up to the duration of the undergraduate program. However, recipients must be able to demonstrate financial requirement at the time of renewability. Furthermore, academic performance will also be considered at the time of renewability.

Eligibility Criteria

For an applicant to be considered for the St. Andrews International Undergraduate Scholarship, he/she must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be an international student, commencing studies on a UK student visa.
  • Must be an entrant undergraduate student starting in 2023
  • Must be a student entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or direct entry into year two
  • Must not be a student of BA International Honours joint courses with William & Mary (see alternative funding available)


Application Process

Students are required to apply for admission into their chosen course in the academic year 2023, Two days post admission application, students can start their University of St. Andrews International Undergraduate Scholarship application process.

Interested applicants can access the application form through “Scholarships and Funding within My Application” (applicant portal). During the application process, applicant is expected to submit the following information:

Financial Statement

A written personal financial statement giving accurate details of any history of financial need (such as free school meals/fees). Relevant information that should be included in the financial statement include the following:

  • Current financial circumstances
  • Written declaration of household income also containing information on household members earning and those not earning income
  • Recent changes to applicant’s income (known changes such as job loss) including any expected changes to this income after the resumption of intended course
  • How a scholarship will assist the applicant’s learning.
  • Information about the previous receipt of any financial support such as benefits
  • Information about any previous need-based scholarships/bursaries received
  • Information about any extenuating circumstances the applicant might be passing through such as carer, dependents, disability, refugee
  • Other relevant information that will help the scholarship selection committee understand why the applicant need funding

Household Income

Information required in this document include:

  • Back up evidence of the income stated in the online scholarship application form as “total household income”.
  • Information about all relevant forms of income for the current or most recent full years
  • employment/wage/salary statements covering at least the most recent three months
  • Tax certificates or returns,
  • Confirmation letters from department of work and pensions
  • Letters from local government
  • FAFSA
  • Council Tax statement,
  • Tax credits,
  • PIP
  • DLA
  • Dividends
  • Pension
  • Annuity

Note:

  1. These documents are required to be presented in pdf or similar small file size format and in English.
  2. Applicants who are experiencing difficulty in uploading reference letters during the scholarship application process can email the document to ugscholarships@st-andrews.ac.uk by the scholarship deadline.
  3. The importance of complete and accurate information cannot be overemphasized as it is the sole determinant of an applicant selection for the scholarship program
  4. For clarity sake, the scholarship application and the admission application is not directly connected to each other, unsuccessful scholarship application doesn’t result in admission denial
  5. Household income will be assessed on below average country specific income rates, please convert your local currency to Pounds (GBP) and indicate the exchange rate used in the application.

Selection Process

The Selection Committee are shouldered with the responsibility of selecting scholars from the pool of applicants based on the information presented in the required documents and the authenticity of the submitted documents.

The outcome of the scholarship application will be made available on the "View my applications" in the Scholarships and Funding section of My Application by mid march 2023.
