Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship

Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship is available to Indian students beginning postgraduate programs at the University of Liverpool. The scholarship program is applicable to one-year masters in the field of Development Studies, with a special focus on Developmental Economics and Science and Technology Studies.

  • The Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship is eligible for only full-time courses at the University of Liverpool. 
  • This scholarship amount covers the expense for tuition fees and living expenses.
  • The Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship funds are not applicable for additional semesters.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the University of Liverpool Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship, the applicants must opt for a full-time course on campus. Apart from that, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Must be a citizen and resident of India
  • Must be below the age of 35 years
  • Must have an excellent academic record in the UG degree.

An offer letter for confirmed admission in the University of Liverpool for a masters’ course in the broad area of Development Studies with a special focus on Economics and Science & technology studies.

The field of study which is preferred for the scholarship are listed below :

  • Development Studies
  • Developmental Economics 
  • Science and Technology Studies

Application Process

Indian students who are interested in the scholarship can apply on the official website of Tata Trust. Along with the application form, applicants must submit the following documents.

  • Scanned copy of the bank passbook as proof of low-income family
  • Scanned copy of Aadhar Card as a proof of Identity.
  • Offer or Acceptance Letter from the University of Liverpool.
  • Submission of a scholarship essay which includes the reason why a candidate is suitable for the scholarship.
  • Personal statement of up to 800 words
  • Letter of recommendation written by a professor if the candidate is studying.

Note: The students may apply even if they don’t have acceptance or offer letters at the time of filling the application but they must update their application status once they have secured the admission.


Selection Process

Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship gives an opportunity to underprivileged students to pursue Higher studies on the basis of their academic record and passion towards the field.

After the initial screening of applicants, candidates are shortlisted to be interviewed in person by a Subject Matter Expert and the Director of the Endowment where the candidate is questioned about his/her subject and areas of interest.

Note: In some cases, a telephonic interview may take place before the final interview.
