Young Women in Public Affairs Award

Zonta International Foundation is a worldwide organization and has several clubs and districts across six continents. It offers Young Women in Public Affairs Awards(YWPA) to recognize charismatic young ladies with high achievements in the public frontier. The YWPA Awards is a highly selective and prestigious award given to young women who passionately look forward to serving the people.

Candidates have to be driven with commitment and strive for the betterment of society and channelize their work towards public service and civic causes. Candidates may apply to the nearest Zonta club for selection to the award.

The Zonta Foundation sponsors district/ regional level and international level awards. Ten candidates are chosen as international winners from the district/ region level winners

District level recipients will get 1,500 USD and international recipients will get an additional 4,000 USD as the prize money.

The award funds can only be used for tuition fees and materials like books, supplies and other equipment required for study at a secondary school, college or university. Women aged between 16-19 years can apply for this award. Recipients cannot defer the YWPA Award.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria to be selected for Young Women in Public Affairs Award is given below :

  • Only female candidates are eligible for this scholarship
  • Young women in the age group of 16 – 19 years as on April 01 every year will be eligible
  • Applicants must be students at a school, college, or university in a Zonta district/region, or studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta Country
  • Applicants have to show proof of
    • Active commitment to volunteerism.
    • Paid or unpaid leadership experience in local government or workplace.
    • Volunteer leadership achievements.
    • Knowledge in Zonta International and its programs.
    • Support in Zonta International's mission of empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.
  • The applicant must not be a previous recipient of this award.
  • Classified members, employees of Zonta International and Zonta International Foundation are not eligible to apply.*

* Classified members: Club members and individuals with direct membership with Zonta International

The term ‘family members’ refer to - ancestors, descendants, adoptees, siblings, nieces or cousins, and spouse or cohabiting partner.

Note: Z and Golden Z club members are also eligible to apply.


Application Process

Applicant must follow the steps given below to apply for Young Women in Public Affairs Awards:

Step 1: Locate the nearest Zonta Club. *

Step 2: Contact the Zonta Club for application deadline.

Step 3: Download the application form from the website.

Step 4: Fill the downloaded application form.

Step 5: Submit required documents for verification of current enrolment from the school, college or university officials .Two confidential recommendations from school, college or university are also required.

Step 6: Submit all documents in English and the completed application form to your nearest Zonta Club.

Note: Applicants from geographic areas within a Zonta district/ region where no clubs are located may apply through a Zonta e-club or directly to the district to be eligible for the district/ region and international awards.

Selection Process

All the applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their merit, concerning their commitment, volunteerism to public service and leadership skills.

Each Zonta club reviews the submitted applications and the supporting documents and selects one applicant as the club level winner. The winning entry from each club is sent to the Zonta governor/ region representative.

The district/ region evaluating committee reviews the applications received from various clubs and selects one applicant from each district/ region.

The Zonta International Award Committee chooses 10 international recipients from district/region applications to Zonta International Board. After the consent of the Zonta International Board, Zonda Foundations provides Young Women in Public Affairs Awards and certificates to all the recipients.


Grant Details

To encourage young women to work for public service, the Zonta International Foundation offers Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Awards. 10 international awards are given to women who work passionately for social service. The award is given only once to the selected candidate and it is non-renewable.

Applications for the 2023 Young Women in Public Affairs Award must be received by the assigned deadline that is declared by the applicant's local Zonta club. The 2023 recipients will be chosen by July 01, 2023.

YWPA Awards chooses young women demonstrating their strength in leadership qualities to bring out the work and life problems in society to the forefront and fights against injustice, as the winners.
