Singapore has announced the plans to permit the entry of double-vaccinated Indian passengers into the country without having to quarantine from November 29, 2021, onwards.
The Ministry of Health announced that in order to re-establish itself as the international aviation hub of Asia, the city-state, Singapore has planned to open its borders to countries including India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, amongst others.
The immunized visitors from India and Indonesia will be allowed to enter quarantine-free travel to Singapore from November 29, while vaccinated travellers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Qatar will be permitted to enter from December 6, onwards without any quarantine restrictions.
Additionally, unvaccinated children aged 12 years or under can also cross the border of Singapore when accompanied by eligible adults.
In addition, the unimmunized children aged 12 years or below are also eligible to travel to the country with the adults without any restrictions.
The Singapore border is now open to around 5.7 million residents who have been away from their homes for over a year, said the ministry of health.
Transport Minister S Iswaran said that Singapore has planned to commence the arrangements with Indonesia, where two designated flights from Singapore to Jakarta will fly every day. The frequency of these flights will be increased to four.
Further, the city-state is aiming two daily flights, each to Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. In 2019, Singapore's Changi Airport witnessed top five markets for passengers arriving from two countries, India and Indonesia, he said.
Earlier, in September 2021, Singapore. reopened its borders for general travel, when it started a vaccinated travel lane with Germany and Brunei.
At present, a total of 13 countries are a part of Singapore's Vaccinated Travel Program including the US, Italy, Canada, among others and Countries like Sweden, Finland and Malaysia will join the list from November 29.
When the latest countries are added to the list, the total arrivals per day is expected to increase to around 10,000 from 6,000 under the VTL program of Singapore. However, as of November 14, over 24,000 vaccinated travellers entered the Southeast Asian nation. Currently, Singapore boasts nearly 85% full vaccination of its total population.
