The Fair Chance Foundation has funded the University of Warwick GBP 500,000 to help more Indian students from Haryana explore higher education and benefit from the new "Widening Access to Higher Education in India: Institutional Approaches" initiative. The project will begin in April 2022. The Warwick Haryana initiative aims to break down social and gender barriers that inhibit rural populations from advancing in their education. Its goal is to boost the capability of educational institutions, particularly in rural regions, and turn them into "college knowledge centers."

Nidhi Sabharwal of the Center for Policy Research in Higher Education, who oversees the project's work in India, considers this initiative as a way to break the cycle of socio-economic disadvantage and minimize inequities in society. Prior study on the project titled 'A Fair Chance for Education: Gendered Pathways to Educational Success in Haryana' revealed that young people in rural regions had little or no access to higher education. Those who have the ability to choose do so based on word of mouth rather than a thorough comprehension of the course and subject.

When the programme began five years ago, it was designed to aid lakhs of women and youths from underprivileged areas of the community and life in general. The present research will provide policymakers with guidance on how to provide Indian women and others an equal opportunity. Emily Henderson of the University of Warwick's Department of Education Studies claims that they will be able to assist students from rural and semi-urban locations in making informed decisions about their future courses.
