I chose Northumbria University as I had a lot of recommendations about this university from my tutors and friends. This University is in the top 50 best university ranking list for the UK. This university also had the course I was looking to study and also offered an advanced practice semester where we can either secure an internship with a company or work on a research project to get a better understanding of the field.
Course Curriculum
The Course that I've been learning is very interesting as there are a lot of relevant course syllabi with real-world issues taking place at the moment and we get to learn and experience everything. There are loads of research works and experiences that we have done during this degree. There is also an Advance Practise module where we can secure an internship in a company to work full-time and gain on job experience, or we can choose to do research project to dive deeper into a chosen filed of study/topic.
Exams
IELTS 6.5 overall is required. However, if you have an educational degree from a majority English-speaking country then you do not need to submit anything along with that.
Placement
It is very difficult to find placements as the university does not take any responsibility or guarantee for your placement. The students have to secure a placement on their own and most of the time it is an unpaid internship as companies hardly take foreign interns. So, most of the students just end up going for the research project. In the research project, you have chosen a research topic and then written a report on it, and later submit it along with a presentation.
Internship
No, I didn't get an internship.
Events
Campus life is great as there are many facilities available for students. There are coffee machines for students to get free coffee or any hot beverage. There are microwaves available for students and also free drinking water. There are toilets on every floor. The classrooms are pretty spacious and the labs are well-equipped.
Fees
My Total fee was £18000, as I had chosen the Advance Practise degree. if you choose to do a normal 1-year degree then it's around £15000 - £16000 in total.
Scholarship
No, I didn't receive any scholarship.
Faculty
The Faculty at Northumbria University is fantastic as they are always available for their students. You can contact them at any time, using an online student portal and they get back to you as soon as possible. They also a many support teams for students at campus as well as online for 24/7 student support.
Hostel
The student accommodations are shared rooms between 2 students. The rent per student is about £700 - £800 per month in central London. If you move to the city outskirts then it comes down to £500 - £600 per month for 1 bedroom.
