It's very modern and has great initiatives in place. The infrastructure is incredibly new and looks good. The library is extensive and has vast collections of books, archives, newspapers and DVDs. The City of Leicester is also very cultural and so DMU's central location thrusts you in a vibrant array of culture that you can fully immerse and indulge in from food to music and crafts.

Course Curriculum

8

There is a variety of academic modules and some practical ones too and it covers important aspects of the film as an academic study. The practical modules are my favourite as the lecturers are helpful and experienced in their respective fields and so are knowledgeable, which aids the learning of the course.

Exams

There are no exams for my course, film studies are BA Single honours degree and each module is graded individually via essays/ presentations/ filmmaking practicals and each percentage goes towards the final grade.

Fees

Course fees are 9250 a year payable from loans by most students. The accommodation also incurs charges which for me works out as 90 per week and is paid in several lump sums, the most recent one having been 1350.

Examination Structure

There are no exams for my course other than a takeaway paper which we must complete and turn it in online. We have a 2-week slot allotted to complete the paper. We do however have substantial coursework and in this first year, these have been mainly essayed based. The essays range from 1500-2500 words so far. In terms of the dissertation, we can write one in our third year or make a practical film if we have sufficient module experience with the practical ones.

Faculty

10

The faculty can't be properly organised at times but the teaching staff are generally helpful and the head of the course is responsive, accessible and always gets things done. He is always on hand to help even if he does not teach you personally.
