- The BA (Hons) Media Studies degree combines creative practice and critical thinking. They will engage with a wide range of ideas central to understanding our 21st-century media environment.
- Central to their students will be critical approaches to media, technology, culture, and identity. They will explore current issues around our data-driven society through modules in digital media theory and law, culture, and technology.
- Television studies will also feature prominently, as well as modules that theorize popular culture and examine music, society, and culture. The students will learn to analyze and debate the latest theories and discover the impact of media on all our lives. In particular, the Online Journalism module will allow you to combine both the practical and theoretical frameworks to understand the ethical responsibility of journalism in a 'post-truth' age.
- On the optional modules, students can explore their interests or specialise your knowledge for a particular career, with topics including digital publishing (building apps), documentary filmmaking, radio production, animation, and computer coding. The students will also have the opportunity to carry out a work placement or produce a commissioned product, in the area of your choice.
- On all of the modules, students will work with industry-standard equipment and software, including both PC and Macintosh computers with the full range of Adobe software including Premiere, Photoshop and After Effects.
- The media is central to today's global and interconnected society. The University will help students make connections in an industry that influences politics, economics, and the rest of our culture. The University also have a Facebook Group dedicated to helping you find work experience on film and video projects - ask your Course Leader for more details.
