Digital Arts will appeal to students with an artistic flair who are fascinated by the creative potential of emerging technology and want to make work that confidently applies it in new and exciting ways.
You will learn to apply artistic approaches to; screen-based image and interaction, animation and motion graphics, music technology, interaction design, physical interface design and creative computer coding. You will work inventively with creative software and hardware, including devices such as Arduino and Kinect, and use consumer and professional-level video and audio equipment in an arts context.
The programme also covers how to work imaginatively with data and networked information (for example creating work in response to social media trends and open source feeds). You will have the opportunity to use technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, wearable technologies and textiles in your work too.
You will learn how to apply different strategies to achieve your objectives, and work to creative briefs and deadlines. You will also learn to reflect critically on the quality of your work, and express its artistic value in the context of relevant discourses and histories. Sometimes you'll work with other students on projects using collaborative tools that are widely used in the professional sector.
Throughout the degree, you will be challenged to develop artistic work to the best of your ability and to show it in public. You will also build a portfolio that demonstrates the depth and range of your expertise as an emerging digital artist. The programme ends with an exhibition of your work in a departmental graduate show to which employers and professional creative practitioners are invited.
