The Law programme from the University of Greenwich is a qualifying law degree, which means that it is an essential part of the training for students wishing to become a barrister or solicitor. It will also enable students to gain jobs in a variety of other areas of employment, such as the city, financial services, business management or the criminal justice system.
There is a strong focus on employability throughout the programme. Employability skills are embedded into every course on the programme, and are supplemented by a comprehensive series of high profile guest speakers and skills workshops. We have excellent links with leading employers in London, including Magic Circle firms, barristers' chambers and financial institutions. These links enable us to offer a variety of mentoring schemes, internships and placements. Students are also encouraged to undertake pro bono work in a variety of community projects.
The programme provides a sound academic education in law. It combines the acquisition of knowledge of substantive law with the development of wider transferable skills. Wherever possible, it seeks to place law in the wider context of social, political, moral and economic issues.
The LLB degree is a qualifying degree for the purposes of qualifying within the EU. International students who wish to qualify outside the EU are advised to consult the appropriate professional body.
The aims of the programme are:
- To provide students with a thorough knowledge of the substantive principles of law in both core courses and those studied as electives
- To teach the necessary skills to identify and explain relevant legal principles, so that students can apply these to given factual situations and see the relationship between various aspects of the law
- To help students to develop good communication skills in a variety of media.
