A physiotherapist uses a variety of techniques and equipment, such as manual therapy, exercise and electro-physical modalities and patient education. These help patients to achieve their maximum potential, prevent ill health, and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
This three-year degree incorporates theÊcore valuesÊof theÊNHS constitutionÊto help prepare you for the challenges of working as a physiotherapist in a modern practice.
Our BSc PhysiotherapyÊ(Hons) programme formÊManchester Metropolitan UniversityÊis approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and when you graduate, youÕre eligible to apply for registration as a physiotherapist under the provisions of the Health Professions Order (2001). ItÕs also subject to the validation procedures of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and is an approved course. As a graduate, you can and seek status as a chartered physiotherapist with the CSP.
Your career prospects after the course
When you graduate from our course, you can apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for registration to practise as a physiotherapist.
As a student, you can join the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) and when you graduate, you can apply for membership to be a chartered physiotherapist.
As a registered physiotherapist, you could work within the NHS or in the private sector, or overseas.

- Sports clubs
- Nursing homes
- Schools
- GP surgeries
- NHS or private hospitals
You may also decide to continue your academic studies with a postgraduate qualification and focus on a particular area, such as musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiorespiratory therapy.
Methods of Assessment
On the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course, we assess you through a combination of tasks and projects. These could include:
- Coursework
- Written, oral, and practical skills exams
- Evaluation of practice placements
- Reflective writing
- Poster presentations
