Master of Arts [M.A] [Specific Learning Difficulties] From Manchester Metropolitan University

They enable schools to have their own dyslexia expert who can identify, assess, plan intervention for, teach and support learners with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia).

These courses support teachers and other professionals in gaining a high level of knowledge and skills so that they can expertly meet the needs of children and adolescents with SpLD and other related literacy difficulties.

On the Postgraduate Certificate in SpLD, you will focus on becoming a good specialist teacher of children with dyslexia (up to the age of 18). In addition, on the Postgraduate Diploma in SpLD, you will develop your skills both as an assessor and a consultant, gaining the skills and knowledge to take on an advisory role.

The MasterÕs degree in SpLD offers the opportunity for you to conduct a small-scale research project investigating an aspect of dyslexia of personal interest to you in your own workplace.

The SpLD programme will enable you to:

• Appreciate the problems experienced by learners/students with SpLD (dyslexia) in literacy
• Examine the debates which take place about the nature and causes of such learning difficulties and the controversies about the form of support required
• Further your skills in assessing the abilities and difficulties of individual children
• Write assessment reports for a range of purposes, audiences and individuals
• Further your competence in devising appropriate intervention strategies
• Develop skills in teaching, using a structured, multi-sensory approach
• Develop confidence in advising and supporting learners, colleagues and other professionals
