We are consistently ranked the top Economics School in Scotland. We build a structured and rigorous foundation of economic concepts, principles, analysis, techniques and knowledge. Our strengths are in applied theory, dynamic macroeconomics, finance, household economics, competition, innovation and climate change.School of History: The School of History is composed of over forty full-time members of academic staff researching and teaching on European, American and Asian history from the dawn of the Middle Ages to the present day. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), 60% of the publications submitted by the staff in the School of History were judged to be Ôworld leadingÕ or Ôinternationally excellentÕ. The School of History prides itself on small group teaching and tutorials allowing for in-depth study and supervision tailored to secure the best from each of our students.
Distinctive features of this course
As a Joint Honours degree student you will study both subjects equally offering you a wide choice of options within subjects. You will study a culture in chronological depth as well as engaging in a number of specialist topics including experiments in economics, economics of innovation, globalisation and international trade, financial economics and law and economics aspects of the history of the Middle East in the mediaeval period, international relations of the Modern Middle East and Iranian history. The background of many of the teaching staff, who as well as being experienced academics, have extensive experience working for, or advising, a number of organisations such as the Council of Economic Advisers to the First Minister, the Bank of England, the European Central Bank (ECB), HM Customs and Inland Revenue and the Calman Commission. It may be possible to spend a semester or year studying abroad as part of this degree programme.
