M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering is a 2 yearMaster’s degree program. Some colleges also have a part-time programme of 3-year duration. Students after completing their B.Tech. gets enrolled in M.Tech program for higher studies. Minimum eligibility asked for this course is 55% aggregate in B.Tech. while it is 60% minimum in IITs.
M.Tech. Mechanical Engineering is offered by many IITs, NITs and other colleges in India. In M.Tech, students are supposed to do a lot of research work and have to prepare thesis during their course work.
Tuition fee for the M.Tech. programme ranges from 40,000 to 100,000. It may go up to 5 lakhs in reputed private colleges.
An M.Tech Mechanical Engineering student can get campus placement in various educational institutes as well as in companies like Atlas Copco, ITC, Godrej, JCB, Kirloskar and many others where he/she can earn up to 12 lakhs or more by working as Junior Engineers, independent consultants, mechanical design engineer etc.
Masters of Technology in the field of mechanical engineering takes a person through the whirlpool of science and mathematics. The course helps a student to get deeper knowledge of solids, materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, design of machine elements and many other concepts about machines and material.
Being a master’s student one is supposed to do a lot of research work in areas like thermal science and engineering, solid mechanics, dynamics and control, etc.
Anyone who has done B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and still have that hunger to know more about the design or maintenance, installation or working of machines should surely look forward to get enrolled in M.Tech. program. Moreover, Master’s degree opens the door also for teaching profession for an engineering student.
M.Tech program runs for a stretch of 2 years which are divided in 4 equal semesters of 6 months each in colleges like Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, IISC, Bangalore and many others.
There are other colleges like Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay andIndian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagarwhich also provide a part-timeM.Tech. course of 3 years in Mechanical Engineering
After getting through with M.Tech. Mechanical Engineering one can go for Ph.D. /M.S. program either in India only or in some foreign university. There are many colleges in India itself which offer Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering.
There are more than 800 colleges offering M.Tech. Mechanical Engineering including many IITs and NITs in India. Some of them are:
