December 01, 2021: The University of Sydney and New York University (NYU) have joined hands to create an immersive international experience for students. The collaboration has been done to offer a student exchange program to university students.
Under this signed partnership between the University of Sydney and New York University, the students will have the opportunity to take courses offerings from both universities and participate in the exchange program.
Students of New York University, NYU will have the option to travel to Australia as a part of the study abroad program and learn about the Camperdown/Darlington campus with students of University of Sydney.

Under this joined partnership, the first batch of NYU students is expected to arrive at the University of Sydney in July 2022. The students will be offered hostel facilities at the Regiment Student Accommodation.
University of Sydney’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Mark Scott said, “This new partnership between two of the world’s leading universities opens up a wealth of extraordinary opportunities for collaboration across teaching, research, and industry engagement".
“As the world begins to open up after the COVID-19 crisis, we’re thrilled to be offering students an immersive international experience, either here in Sydney or in New York" he further added.
Under this partnership, the University of Sydney Faculty will teach NYU lecturers to students on campus. The lectures will include Anthropology, Environmental Studies, English, and Media, Culture, Communications among other subjects.
In addition, students of NYU Sydney who will join the exchange program will have the option to apply for courses of their interest offered by the University of Sydney. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to apply for various industry and community projects of the university.
Following the projects, students will learn to work in cross-disciplinary teams and will find solutions to various real-world programs. The projects will offer students an overview of real-world problems set by external partners in various organizations.

NYU Silver Professor of Anthropology Fred Myers said, “This partnership with the University of Sydney gives our students the opportunity to engage more deeply with Australia. It’s a chance for American students and Australian students to meet on equal terms.”
Adding to the statement, NYU President Andrew Hamilton said, “Our students love being in Sydney, and, like them, I am thrilled to be resuming NYU’s program after a COVID-related hiatus”.
“Our agreement will have the additional important advantage of permitting NYU students to take classes alongside University of Sydney counterparts, which will benefit everyone” he added.
The agreement was signed on November 30, 2021, by NYU and the University of Sydney in the presence of the University of Sydney’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Mark Scott, and NYU’s President, Professor Andrew Hamilton.
Additionally, New York University, NYU’s Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Global Programs and University Life, Professor Linda Mills was also present at the virtual ceremony.
