Rejection rate of Australian Student visa increases to 50% for Indian students

Australia has rejected around 50% of visa applications for Indian students in 2022. Australian immigration authorities have subjected international VET applicants to a high degree of scrutiny and hence there has been a high refusal rate. For the majority of 2022, the overall percentage of visas granted to students in vocational education was under 50%. However in 2022, 34 out of more than 900 Australia student visa applications for vocational study were granted, or 3.8%, making this the lowest approval rate ever.

About half of Indian students' visa requests in 2022 were denied by Australia. Offshore VET applicants have typically faced a high level of scrutiny from Australian immigration officials, resulting in a high denial rate. The overall percentage of visas issued to students in vocational education was less than 50% throughout most of 2022. However, in 2022, 34 of almost 900 student applications for vocational studies were allowed, or 3.8%, the lowest approval percentage ever.

The fact that DHA has found increasing levels of fraud in the caseload, as well as a change in source nations, is most likely contributing to the lower grant rates. The "genuine temporary entrance" criteria may also be used more frequently by DHA to deny applications. The recently announced examination of the migration mechanism could result in a solution. In this regard, the Albanese Government has said that from July 1, 2023, Australia will revert to limited work privileges for international students.
