That?s why the Hillsdale Theatre major is more academically rigorous than at other undergraduate institutions. We?ll continually challenge you to make connections between seemingly disparate things?which is actually excellent preparation not only for the stage, but for life itself. The department hosts visiting artists, goes on an annual trip to the Stratford Festival in Ontario, and has taken productions to the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Theatre is offered as both a major and minor.

The theatre major provides students the opportunity to study speech and acting skills, literature, dance, and visual arts, and further develops proficiency with lighting, recorded sound, mechanics, and electronics communications media.

Hillsdale?s theatre curriculum challenges students to mature as artists and scholars. Students can develop their interests in various aspects of theatre, developing as historians, actors, directors, designers, and more.

Theatre majors are required to work backstage on at least two department productions. They also supplement coursework with frequent off-campus opportunities for study. These include yearly trips to the Stratford, Ontario, Shakespeare Festival; opportunities to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival in Scotland; and participation in the American College Theatre Festival.
