Ranking and culture both appealed to me when i was choosing. it was the top school in economics and the people i spoke to seemed very intelligent and interesting.

Course Curriculum

8

It is a very research oriented curriculum. You have to take a lot of core classes ranging from Biology to Visual Art alongside your Major classes (in my case Economics). Every class requires 100% effort and is not going to be an “easy A” as many core classes at other colleges are. There is no industrial exposure like co-ops per se, but employers are always looking to hire UChicago grads. if someone is interested in a phd or research in general- it’s the perfect university as the best academics teach here and research opportunities are all around.

Exams

SAT (I took it when it was out of 2400)- 2320/2400 SAT Subject Test - Math lvl 2 800/800, Chemistry 730/800

Placement

7

All top firms visit campus and host info sessions. There are career fairs where 100s of employers attend and all kinds of industries are covered. There is a website specifically accessible to UChicago students where you can post jobs as an employer and where students can find jobs based on their interests. Median salary for economics grads is 83,000 USD per year. For computer science grads it is 87,000 USD per year. Most people i know hit six figures after one year in the job. I am not sure about the placement rate but if i am not mistaken 80-90% of students reported having employment upon graduation.

Events

Campus life can really be what you want it to be - if you want parties and greek life that’s available, but if you prefer to stay inside and play board games or go to art events or even gaming events that’s also an option. There are all sorts of clubs - cultural, sports, hobby, career based. Some examples are: Cultural- Clubs for indian students, east asian students, caribbean students etc. And even other parts of culture such as Wine tasting club, EU club etc. Sports: Rowing, Soccer, Fencing etc. Hobby: Fashion designing club, model UN, debate, etc. Career based: Consulting club, economics research, finance club, blue chips etc.

Professors who are notable: Raghuram Rajan (ex RBI chief) Steve Levitt (author of freakonomics) Richard Thaler (nobel laureate) Allen Sanderson Luigi Zingales James Heckman (nobel laureate) Gary Becker (nobel laureate) Eugene Fama (nobel laureate) Ratio is usually 1:30 for advanced classes and 1:200 for beginners classes. All professors are well versed and approachable and will even offer research opportunities if you are interested.

Hostel

There are several dorms on campus that differ in location, architecture and culture of students that live there. All rooms have basic necessities such as access to a common kitchen and a private or shared bathroom. The cost is included in the school fees you pay. you can also choose to live off campus in one of the nearby apartments.
