OC area, close proximity, always did research or volunteering at UCI when I was in high school, very good science classes and programs, prestigious research and internship opportunities, would like to go to its med school.
Course Curriculum
I'm not sure what core curriculum is, but I'm assuming it is something similar to the common core. In general, I believe that UCI has very food academics though. Their science is top-notch! Sorry, I cannot answer this question.
Exams
I took the SAT and ACT. They are okay scores, but not the best. I did not take any other exams other than those two previously mentioned.
Placement
Very good, I am part of my college honours program, so it is already required that I do a thesis project before graduation. There is also a website with links to different research and internship opportunities that are available to most undergraduate students.
Internship
Yes, there is a link for students to refer to if they are interested in participating in them. As I am only a prospective college freshman, I do not have much personal or first-hand experience with them yet.
Events
Many lectures by professors and guest speakers. Since it's a very environmentally friendly and STEM school, lots of events that focus on "being green" or tech shows. Also, as it is in OC, there are a lot of Asian cultural events, such as Chinese New Year, food festivals etc.
Fees
There is just a parking pass fee of $200 a month. Other than that, the time, place, and parking duration do not affect me.
Scholarship
Outside scholarships because did not qualify as having "financial need" for UCI scholarships. Also no financial aid.
Examination Structure
I don't know yet because I am going to be attending UCI this fall! I hear that most classes are curved, so the exams should not be too difficult. The school also goes by a quarter system, so the classes and topics will go by fast.
Faculty
Good, Just freshmen so I don't know the staff that well yet. Only have followed current students into their classes, but noticed that some go very slow and some go fast. Very interactive with students though.
Hostel
I live in OC, so I plan to commute because it is convenient for my work as a high school tutor and saves me money. Traffic is definitely a problem in the morning because of the 405 freeway, but I try to leave the house early. Parking is not as bad because they have new structures now.
