Big fun in the big blue nation

7.8 /10

I liked the program because of it's the incorporation of theatre, fine arts, and communications in the secondary English education curriculum and their masters with an initial certification program. They also had a speech team which I valued and eventually joined. Finally, they gave good scholarships to out of state students.

Course Curriculum :

I believe the general education curriculum also known here as the UK core curriculum is a bit excessive but they do allow a lot of AP credits. I enjoy the flexibility within my major to have different options to fulfil many requirements. I think where this program fails students is the lack of actual "education" classes or classroom setting experience before grad school.

Exams :

I took the ACT exam a total of three times with the third being my strongest. I also took the SAT once because it was subsidized by the school. I did not end up using my SAT for admissions except for the limited free schools we got to send our scores to.

Events :

There are far too many to list but one annual one is crunch brunch which is an annual celebration during fall semester finals week with late-night breakfast food, music, fun and crafts. Many other events are held every week and have included laser tag in the student centre, lots of free movies, sports games and many more.

Fees :

I don't know much about the fees structure although the university continues to build lots of new buildings they also take on more and more bonds sp tuition continues to rise. Additionally, the dorms are privately owned so they are very expensive but also very nice.

Scholarship :

I filled out the general application which was fairly simple and gained a lot of scholarship money from that. Additionally, I have filled out the departmental application each year and have not yet received any aid from that. They do give you the chance to ask about your application which I have not personally taken advantage.

Examination Structure :

Final exams times are set by the ombud and you will not be forced to take more than 2 finals per day. Exam format largely varies by class but many offer online exams with time limits. Additionally, many classes do not have finals so it is unlikely you will be required to stay all of finals week.

Faculty :

I would say there is definitely a very large mixture with more good than bad. I've had quite a few standout professors and have almost always felt respected and like I was getting a high-quality education. That being said just in the last 2 semesters I have had one particularly bad English professor one rather rude stats professor and one bad linguistics TA.
