Overwhelming Experience at Southern Mississippi

Rb
9.3 /10

Because of its opportunities to be a graduate assistant. It is a smaller school in a Power 5 conference, the majority of its athletic department employees are graduate assistants and student interns. We get a great real-life experience.

Course Curriculum :

I love our course curriculum. We are given a lot of case study opportunities to bring the real-world events into our studies and relate everything. We have learned that what happens in the real world will ultimately happen in the sports world.

Exams :

On the ACT, I scored a 28 cumulative. My top score was in Math. On the GMAT writing portion, I scored a seven out of eight.

Placement :

The University of Southern Mississippi likes to hire its graduates and alumni. Job opportunities do seem to come available pretty frequently as employees like to grow and move on after their time here in Hattiesburg.

Internship :

Through my graduate assistantship, my tuition is paid for and I get a monthly stipend during the academic year. My internship opportunity did not come from the University. It was something I applied for on my own.

Events :

We celebrate graduates with several events such as Grads and Crawdads. As a college of business, we celebrate our departments individually in order to highlight different majors. We also celebrate our region with Mardi Gras break.

Fees :

The fees are structured to be paid once a semester, mostly in the form of a student involvement fee.

Examination Structure :

Exams are structured in a midterm and final format mostly. Additional exams are of the professor's discretion. For midterms, they are taken during normal class times. For finals, we have a separate schedule.

Faculty :

The faculty are great. They have a wide variety of experiences ranging from assistant and head coaches of basketball and swimming to Athletic Director positions.

Hostel :

I chose to live off-campus because I am a graduate student. I did not feel comfortable living with freshman as I was sure I was going to be a more serious and studious student. Also, I chose to live in a house because it was cheaper than student housing in the area.
