Kate Mowrey Review at Lebanon Valley College [LVC], Annville | Collegedunia

Lebanon Valley College 101

KM
8.2 /10

Athletics program and physical therapy program. I greatly connected with the cross country coach and was excited to contribute to the running program. The PT program is growing tremendously and is well known in our area. After being accepted, I secured a spot into the full 6 years of the program without having to reapply. I also liked the location of the college. There is a cute college town with plenty of countrysides to adventure in.

Course Curriculum :

This is a liberal arts college, so I did have to take courses to fulfill general education requirements. These courses were beneficial in forming an inclusive campus environment and made me a well-rounded person. After 3 years of courses, I am now fully immersed in physical therapy courses and I am very excited about that.

Exams :

I took the SAT and ACT in high school to apply for this college. I took the SAT three times and the ACT two times.

Placement :

Our college was recently awarded number 1 in the nation for after college job placement. The students at this college have a streamlined transition from graduation into the real world. This characteristic of LVC is very comforting to me as I work hard towards my degree. I know that my degree will reward me with a stable job.

Internship :

Our college does provide internships but I have not participated in them. I am unsure of the stipends involved with the internships offered. I do know that students have had great experiences with the internships offered.

Events :

LVC has many events for prospective students, on-campus students, and alumni. An example of a prospective student event is LVC live. At this event, prospective students can visit campus to receive tours, information sessions, free merch, and a meal at the dining hall. Furthermore, there are many events for on-campus students. We have an online system called 'Redbook' which posts events for students to participate in at a free or reduced cost. These events may include a Saturday bus trip to New York City, a Hershey Bears hockey game, a ski trip, laser rag, bowling, a Thanksgiving dinner, service trips, or plays at surrounding theaters. LVC also has Dutchmen Day once a year, which is a day of no classes and on-campus activities. The day ends with an on-campus concert. We also have a very athletic campus and all students are encouraged to support the athletic teams by attending their events. Alumni are also encouraged to attend our athletic events. Our women?s basketball Pink Out game is particularly popular with alumni. We also have a day of philanthropy each year which encourages donations from alumni and promotes school spirit.

Fees :

There is tuition charged to residents and commuter students. The tuition for 2019-2020 is 44,190 dollars. There are an additional room and board charge for students living on campus. The room and board are about 12,200 dollars depending on the housing and meal plan option of the student. Part-time and graduate students are charged per credit. The credit charges all differ depending on the type of part-time student and the different grad programs. However, the graduate physical therapy students are charged a flat tuition rate. This rate is 47,980 dollars for the 2019-2020 year. Each student is offered a 1/3 off tuition scholarship. The books, transportation, and other educational resources are not included in tuition. The estimated cost of those extra expenses is 3,682 dollars.

Scholarship :

Yes. I also work in the financial aid office so I am very informed about this process. Each student is given a financial award package for each academic year. This package is formed based on the student?s FAFSA. Every student is eligible for federal Stanford loans if they complete the FASFA. Additional aid can include PHEAA, Federal Pell, LVC need-based scholarship, children of alumni, music scholarships, multicultural scholarship, endowed scholarships, and other outside scholarships the student may have been awarded. There are also a number of outside loans available for students through Salli Mae and Discover, for example. Families may also take a Parent Plus Loan is they so chose. Once a student receives their financial award package, they are to sign and return the necessary papers to the financial aid office and business office. The students can view the balance on their account through their Access LVC.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is fair and simple. Each professor has a slightly different style of examinations. I have been satisfied with the fairness, time is given for the exam, review sessions for the exam, discussions after the exam, and the time given to prepare for each examination. Also, our college has a center for accessibility resources which allows students with special circumstances to take their exams in a quiet environment with extended time.

Faculty :

Most professors are very committed to each student's success. They are always available either in office hours or via email. I appreciate their commitment to the students who are working hard to succeed in their class.

Hostel :

All students are required to live on campus for four years unless they have great financial hardship. Students can live in a traditional dorm, triples, or apartment style with 4 people. Graduate students are responsible for finding housing off campus.
